Powering a Sustainable Future: Melissa’s Ongoing Global Green Initiative

Melissa’s Global Green initiative spans many policies and procedures across the company. First launched in 2021, Melissa’s Global Green initiative aims to reduce emissions and our carbon footprint with smarter, cleaner business practices. In 2025, this initiative is still going strong.

“Melissa is committed to powering a sustainable future by actively minimizing our environmental impact as much as possible,” Bud Walker, Melissa’s Chief Information Officer, said. “Our dedication to environmental stewardship is integral to our long-term success and our responsibility to the global community.”

Check out some of the ways that we’re reducing our carbon footprint and working toward a sustainable future.

  • During the pandemic, Melissa offered flexible work scheduling options and has continued a hybrid work-from-home/in-office program that reduces emissions from commuting to the office daily. Travel has also been reduced overall, with virtual meetings held with customers whenever possible.
  • Melissa has installed solar panels at the Rancho Santa Margarita Headquarters for a clean energy alternative. With 354 solar panels, we save over 150,000 pounds of CO2 per year—the amount of greenhouse gas emissions from 172,000 miles driven in a vehicle.
  • Melissa encourages employee adoption of electric cars by offering 12 free charging stations at Headquarters. These EV charging stations provide over 800,000 miles per year, reducing another 543,000 pounds of CO2.
  • In office, motion-activated, energy-efficient LED lights have been installed, replacing older, less efficient technologies. We also use power-saving equipment, conserving energy when not in use, and all electrical appliances are rated for energy savings.
  • Melissa has also adopted “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. This means that:
    • We continue to stay paper-free as much as possible, using digital signatures and transmissions when possible.
    • We use minimal packaging that is consistently recycled.
    • We are diligent in recycling in-office, including batteries and other hazardous waste.
    • We offer reusable dishware and water stations to cut down on paper and plastic waste.

Implementing address verification and data quality—the core of Melissa’s business—also plays an important role in sustainability. By reducing waste associated with misdeliveries, excess communications and returned mail, companies can take an important step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Learn more about Melissa’s Global Address Verification solutions on our website, or call 1-800-MELISSA.
