CA Unanimously Passes Mini GDPR Law

California lawmakers recently, and unanimously, passed a privacy bill – the first of its kind in the United States – similar to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The new law won’t go into effect until 2020, but companies may want to start considering now processes for data collection and sharing.

The so-called California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 gives CA residents the right to see what information of theirs has been collected, where it has been shared or sold, along with the right to request that it be deleted. Companies that do not comply face new penalties.
